Photo by Lena Lim PhotographyI'm a classically trained calligrapher based in Melbourne, Australia, specialising in Copperplate and Spencerian, two timeless scripts that form the foundation of many modern lettering styles. I first discovered calligraphy as a teenager. Having always been drawn to art, I was instantly captivated by the precision, grace, and quiet beauty of the pointed pen. When I began university, I bought my first nib and holder, and quickly found myself spending more time practising letterforms than studying. What started as curiosity became devotion.
As I continued, I became increasingly aware of calligraphy as a fading craft, something often seen as either overly traditional, or too intimidating to begin. I wanted to change that. That intention led me to start sharing my work and process through @charlotte.script(formerly @charlottescript).
documenting not just finished pieces, but the learning behind them. Over time, Charlotte Script grew into one of the largest calligraphy platforms in the world, reaching millions of people. Along the way, I collaborated with global brands, created educational resources, and taught workshops internationally, helping thousands of people take their first steps into calligraphy.
Taking a break & finding purpose...
But somewhere between creative growth and a demanding corporate career, I became disconnected from the reason I started. Balancing both paths led to burnout, and I eventually stepped back to travel, reflect, and reconnect with what this craft actually meant to me. What became clear during that time is that calligraphy was never just about perfect letterforms. It was about focus, slowness, and the quiet satisfaction of learning something by hand. Over the years, I've received countless messages from students who shared how calligraphy helped them slow down, process difficult seasons, and reconnect with themselves. Those stories reshaped how I see this practice.
That is why Charlotte Script has now evolved into something more intentional: a space dedicated to making calligraphy genuinely approachable, wherever you are starting from. Whether you've never picked up a pen before or are returning after years away, my focus is on creating learning experiences that are clear, supportive, and accessible.
This is no longer about scale for its own sake. It's about opening the door to a craft that has brought calm, creativity, and connection to so many, including myself.
